Evidence of Skills
During my time in vocational training at Ballet West I have been able to gain a lot of experience and have had many opportunities to do the things I love doing. Below I have briefly looked into my favorite performance experiences at Ballet West and how they have helped me gain experience, opportunity and skills.
I have recently done my first paid dancing job, which was dancing two numbers at a charity-boxing event called Ground Breaker II White Collar Boxing. It was the most unusual thing I have done, as we were dancing in a boxing ring as the stage, and had the audience all around us. As it was a relaxed environment the audiences were encouraged to participate by clapping and cheering and this created a great atmosphere, which really helped me to get into the mood of the dance.
In my last UK tour with Ballet West Company I was able to play the role of a Gypsy in the ballet Romeo and Juliet. This role required stamina and constant performance, and being my first major role in a full-length ballet it was an amazing opportunity. I performed a fast, lively dance, which included lots of partner work. I gained a great deal of experience from doing this role as it allowed me to improve my partner work, which I really enjoy doing. I feel that this role really helped me with my performance and getting into a character; by being such an expressive and outgoing role it would have been unacceptable to lack in performance.
During my years in vocational training I have had the opportunity to perform in many places. I did three tours of Scotland with three different full-length ballets, a number of events throughout the UK. I have had the privilege of performing at the Royal Albert Hall, and the enjoyment of dancing at Disneyland Paris. Both of these performances were set up by Mardi Gras and choreographed by Jordi Guitart. I particularly gained experience in the performances set up by Mardi Gras as the dances we performed were jazz pieces, something I wish to continue in my career. Being able to perform in such amazing places like the Royal Albert Hall and Disneyland Paris was an incredible opportunity.
